Swim Groups

The West Florida Lightning Aquatic Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the WFLA to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Silver I

This is our entry level group. An athlete need only to be able to swim a length of the pool to enter this group.

Silver Group II

From the Silver I group, athletes move into this group. Athletes in this group focus mainly on learning four legal competitive strokes, having fun, perfecting start and turn technique, and learning to train on intervals.

Junior Group

From the Silver I group, athletes move into this group. Athletes in this group are usually at least 10 years old and have completed the Silver Group move-up skills list. This group consists of 7 workouts offered each week with dryland training 6x per week.  Competing at swim meets is highly encouraged at a rate of about once per month.

National Team

This group is typically for high school age athletes.  Athletes entering the National Team must display a strong desire to perform at the highest level they are capable of. Training is geared towards individual talents, although a strong aerobic endurance factor is present. Athletes in the National Team have goals that include competing on the National level and/or preparing to swim collegiately.

This group is for the high school seasonal athlete who wishes to stay conditioned between high school swimming seasons.
